THIS WAY TO THE MATH LAB
The global classroom (the Internet) is a tool that
enhances education, facilitates research and allows students to learn in
a variety of subject areas and at a faster rate than textbooks can be updated.
We are always working towards upgrading our existing
technology. Each classroom contains one or more computers that are connected to
the Internet.
In addition,
- our ScanTek Science lab affords students a hands-on
approach to learning the scientific process using computer technology as
well as 'manipulatives' such as levers, pulleys, and batteries.
- the computer lab
provides student access to all of the features of Microsoft Office as well
as DVD drives and CD burners. Students can conduct research via the
internet, create their own web page and travel "Cross Country USA"
in an 18-wheeler.
- our
multimedia library has 8 networked, Internet-enabled computers with
immediate research capability. With connectivity to cable TV and digital
video cameras, a scanner and a color laser printer, our students are on the cutting edge of technology.
- whenever individual students or groups of students need
access to technology and the labs are occupied, they may take advantage of
one of three mobile carts, which contain laptops that connect wirelessly
to the internet.
- and finally, students in need of remedial math help can
use the Math Lab, which, in addition to computers, also contains a
Smartboard and 'manipulatives' for better hands-on learning.
Technology is being utilized at The Lorraine Hansberry
School to facilitate traditional as well as non-traditional learning.
Students and teachers brainstorm effective ways to use computers to maximize learning potential by networking with a wide range
of students/teachers/experts around the globe.
We are all very excited about our technology program as well
as the prospect of our "connected" future. We envision a seamless, connected, technological future,
one in which the technology is not intrusive but is simply available when needed.
We strive towards a 1:1 ratio of students to
computers.
